To correctly view this Tutorial the first time, make sure you are in
the ASCII Mode, Opposite Scroll Mode and BlankIgnore is On. If you are
not sure, press [C] and set these two modes in the Configuration
Function. The directions on the end of each line (in CAPITAL LETTERS)
will demonstrate the various features. <--PRESS [*] WHEN READY TO BEGIN

This file has a standard indent of 4 spaces. <-PRESS [*]
(Both files consist of an excerpt from the DoubleTake User's Manual,
with helpful comments added to demonstrate some of the features.)
Press ScrollLock to scroll the files independently. Now use
[Right/Left] arrows to re-align the cursor in File 1, [Shift-Right/
Shift-Left] arrows to move the cursor in File 2.
(This file has random x's scattered to find differences
between this file and TUTORFIL.ONE) <-PRESS [DownArr] THEN [*]

Next Mismatch again ([*]). You will find that none of the mismatched x's
will be found this time around.
NOTE: In HEX mode, use the [Left]/[Right] keys to move the cursor
in file 1 (or [Ctl-Left]/[Ctl-Right] if this file is loaded as file 2),
to re-align the files before searching for Next Mismatch.

What's New!
1. ASCII Mode. A key improvement in DoxubleTake, Version 2.0,
is the implementation of a fully functional ASCII viewing mode.
In Version 2.0 ASCII Mode and Hex mode share many features:
o Fully scrollable forward or backwards, any length file.
(NOW PRESS THE [TAB] KEY TO SCROLL THE DISPLAY TO THE RIGHT TO SEE THE REMAINDER OF THIS LINE.)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
o Cursor movement keys can move eaxch file line by line or character by character.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
(NOW PRESS THE [TAB] KEY TO SCROLL THE DISPLAY TO THE RIGHT TO SEE THE REMAINDER OF THIS LINE.)
o Can move a "cursor" character by character in each
file.
o Twin Cursor Scrolling -- Scroll Lock toggles whether
both file character cursors move together when you
press txhe Right/Left arrows. Starts with Twin Cursor
Scrolling On.
o FindString highlights the found string (in case you
want to save the block to a clip file.)
o FindString, FindNextMismatch and Align Files remain at
the current spot in the file if you do not find a
string, mismatch or a spot to alixgn in a file.
o Added ability to enter Hex or Decimal codes when
searching for a string. (to search for non-printing
charcters, such as CR or LF or TAB). Use no quotes if
entering just a string; Use quoxtes if you want to mix
hex ($20 (space character) for example) and decimal
(\032 (space character) for example) along with the
strings.
o DoubleTake proxvides a configurable Align files
function. Pressing AltA lets you choose:
1) which file to align with which,
2) how much of the "Align-with" file to search for
in the "bring-into-alignment" file,
3) which wxay to search for in the "bring-into-
alignment" file,
4) how many characters to check in the "bring-
into- alignment" file and
5) whether to ignore upper/lower case in the
search. If Blank Ignore is on, all "IGNORE"
characters are ignxored in finding a match.
(NOW TRY THE ALIGN FUNCTION BY PRESSING [ALT-A], [2] AND [ENTER]. YOU
SHOULD SEE FILE 2 MOVE FORWARD ONE CHARACTER TO ONCE MORE ALIGN WITH FILE
1).
2. In addition, ASCII Mode has the following features:
o ASCII Mode has configurable End of Line characters.
The default characters are Carriage Return (ASCII code
x hex $0D), Line Feed ($0A), CR with high bit set
(WordStar, ASCII code $8D) and Linefeed with high bit
set ($8A). You can choose your own End of Line codes
to adapt DoubleTake to your specific word processor.
o Either one or two character End of Line characters can
be handled. DoubleTake recognizes Carriage Return (CR)
and Linefeed (LF) as the end xof a single line. If the
same End of Line character occurs twice in sucession,
DoubleTake assumes that this file only uses the one
character to indicate End of Line and will reflect two
lines, one for each End of Line character.
o DoubleTake shows either Line Number Mode or Show Byte
At Cursor Mode. In the Line xNumber Mode, DoubleTake
shows the actual line in the file
o
o ASCII Mode uses the Tab and Shift-Tab keys to scroll
the screen right or left to view lines wider than the
screen width. Can scroll either file independently or
both together. A Quick-Return-to-Column-One key
(RightShift-Tab) rxeturns both files to the left margin)
o Added the ability to highlight a block and write it to
a clip file of your own choice. Two clip files are
available, one for each file, but you may change either
or both clip files as you xchoose. Clip filenames
default to the same filename as the compared file, with
the extension of ".CLP," but you can change any part of
the name
o You can enter a new filename, overwrite an existing
clip file or continuously add to the end of it.
Now that a file can be read successfully in either Hex or
ASCII mode, DoubleTake does not check a filxe for non-printing
characters -- it starts in the mode you set when you configured
the file.
